As the year comes to an end, I just want to say a sincere and heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone for all of your support this year, my first year as MITA president. It was a tough year in some ways, certainly I have learned a lot throughout some of the more challenging situations. We have enjoyed some victories, both small and large, and it is my hope that we have made progress in a few areas, and established that MITA is moving forward as a unified organization, stronger together.
MITA Officers attended the AFT Convention in Pittsburgh, The NYSUT Representative Assembly in Albany, NYSUT's Member Benefits Conference also in Albany, and numerous NYSUT and Long Island President's Council events on Long Island. Here are just SOME of the benefits that we gained from these events:
We partnered with UCOMM who has helped us all year with communication including these newsletter emails, and our BOE endorsements. We joined the NYSUT Legal Plan as a group, a fabulous benefit for our members, and MITA partnered with Accuhealth to provide free wellness exams for our members.
Along with our newly elected BOE members, there is much to be done next year and we are in a good position to continue to serve our membership as well as represent ourselves positively to the community with a few new and exciting events and projects to be announced in the fall! (Hint: We are working on something new with First Book!) We will be continuing our MITA Meet and Greets, and hope that if you have not joined us at one of them yet, that you will do so at our first one of the 2019-202 school year, date to be announced.
