A Message from President Josephine Libassi

Hello MITA Members!

I hope you enjoy this Spring recess and can spend this holiday weekend with friends and family.

We have launched the new MITA app and included here is the QR code to sign in, it takes only a minute.  It is already becoming an excellent communication tool, so I'd like to encourage you all to please sign up if you have not already done so.

The district has announced that they will be providing "eclipse glasses" for students and staff for Monday, April 8th in order to safely view the eclipse, which should be visible in our area between approximately 2-4pm. Building principals will be providing details next week.

APPR news!  We have been waiting for our elected officials in Albany to finally approve an APPR that restores local control.  I am happy to report that through all of our lobbying to this end, NYSUT has announced that this change is expected to be made official very soon.

This means that there will be no testing components and no more state-generated scores for teacher evaluations. Our evaluations will be locally developed and negotiated with the district. This is great news and I will be asking for your feedback in the coming weeks about what priorities you would like to see included, once we are able to begin working on a new and simplified APPR.
