I attended the Long Island Presidents Council's winter meeting this past weekend out in Montauk. We had the opportunity to meet with NYSUT President Andy Pallotta. He spoke to us and answered questions about a few key issues, including the APPR bills that are waiting for the governor to sign into law, and the proposed changes to make the tax cap permanent. Additionally, we had a great presentation by Ron Gross about TRS and the importance of staying involved with your MyNYSTRS account. Lena Ackerman from NYSUT Legal also presented and took questions. At the meeting we were also provided the application for the 2019 LI Teachers Benevolent Fund Scholarship. If you have a graduating senior, you are eligible to apply.
