MITA Community Outreach Committee Member Kevin Mann has extended our community in a big way! He recently traveled to Kenya in support of teachers there and specifically the Kenya Women's Teachers' Association, a local of the Kenyan National Union of Teachers (KNUT). In a part of the world where a safe and consistent water supply is NOT a guarantee, these teachers face obstacles on a daily basis that we are fortunate enough to rarely encounter in this country.
We sent Kevin with MITA shirts and bags to give out to our Kenyan colleagues, and after receiving them, they rolled out a large global map on a table in their school and asked Kevin to show them where Middle Island was. They were astounded that teachers here were supporting them and even knew about them. More to come on how we can help support their efforts. It's not always about money!
Below is Kevin in Nairobi at the Methodist guest house gifting MITA bags and shirts to Dorothy Muthoni, National Chairman Kenya Women's Teachers' Association(left),with Dr. Linda Patterson, Educational Consultant USA, and Benta Opande, Secretary, Kenya Women's Teachers' Association. These are the two highest ranking female union leaders in Kenya.
