MITA has filed a grievance based on a violent student who assaulted a teacher in one of our elementary buildings.
Please continue to document these egregious behaviors as they occur in your classrooms, and send it to us. This does not have to be on any kind of official form or anything like that, just a simple bulleted account of what took place. This grievance is getting a tremendous amount of push-back from Central Office based on the fact that it is an elementary student, which is understandably upsetting.
However, I want all MITA members to know that regardless of the age of the student, I will not accept the concept that teachers should expect to be injured by violent students in their classrooms. Students who are misplaced create safety issues for themselves and everyone else in the room. Unacceptable. And when we have the opportunity to do something about it, as we do in this particular grievance case, we're going to!
