A Message from President Josephine Libassi

Hello Everyone! I want to wish you all a peaceful and relaxing winter recess! Hard to believe that when we return we will be looking at the first week of March. Spring is truly almost here!

Negotiations are ongoing with the district, we have several meeting dates scheduled throughout March and things are going well.

Some fun news to share: I applied for and received a Reading Opens the World Grant that was offered by AFT in partnership with First Book. This means we can host another huge book give-away and we are planning this for Longwood Day.  It has been a few years since we hosted one of these, and I am so happy to be able to do another one. The entire community loved these book events and we continue to get questions about when we might be able to do another.

This will be our 6th book event, to date we have given away over 125K books and this truckload will put us at approx. 160K.

On Friday May 12th, we will be asking for help setting up the event in the HS gym starting at 2PM. Anyone who helps that evening can take whatever books they would like, prior to the event on the 13th. As in past years we will supply dinner for everyone!! Please encourage students to join us and help set up, and also to help out at the event itself.  Time spent will count as community service hours.

Additional to the truckload of books arriving in May, we received a sizable credit at First Book so that we can select other titles that generally do not come in on the donated truckloads; bilingual books, multicultural books.  Christine sent an email out yesterday with a link to First Book Marketplace with a Google form attached, so please take a  look and send us your lists by March 1 so we can get those orders in for you!! If you have not already registered with First Book, you can do so here: https://firstbook.org/AFT/

One of our Longwood approved financial service providers, GWN, is offering a webinar on March 15th as part of the NEA retirement planning program, please see the flyer below for more information!
